MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Grizzlies have selected Tony Wroten with the 25th pick in Thursday night's NBA draft.
Memphis was looking to fill a void at backup point guard and the 6-foot-6 Wroten from Washington has a reputation of being a passer and facilitator. He has the skills necessary to back up Memphis starter Mike Conley.
His shortcoming is his shot. Wroten shot 44.3 percent from the field and just 16.1 percent from 3-point range.
Wroten averaged 16 points a game and 3.86 assists during his only season for the Huskies, earning him All-Pac-12 honors. He was named Pac-12 freshman of the year. He scored at least 20 points in 12 games.
The Grizzlies entered the draft with only the first-round pick.
