Your guide to July 4 events around Snohomish County

There are lots of ways to celebrate Fourth of July.

You could run a race. You could have a duck run a race for you. Or you could not race at all and instead walk slowly through some massive Navy ships.

You can also see parades and fireworks.

The fourth is Wednesday this year. One way to mark the holiday is to buy a rubber ducky for a chance to win a summer pool pass.

The City of Lynnwood Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department will conduct its first Duck Race.

To enter, buy a duck for $5 at the Lynnwood Recreation Center, 18900 44th Ave. W, Lynnwood. Proceeds support the Recreation Benefit Fund.

Then get to the rec center before 12:45 p.m. Wednesday and watch 2,000 of these rubber ducks go down the long tube slide, swoosh through the splash pool and float along the 180-foot long river. The top three winners receive a summer pass to the rec center.

For more information call Chris Klontz at 425-670-5534, or e-mail cklontz@ci.lynnwood.wa.us.

If rubber ducks aren’t your thing, get a jump on the fourth and take a tour of Naval Station Everett during “Freedom Fest” on Saturday.

“Freedom Fest”: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Naval Station Everett, includes ship tours, food and family entertainment. Entry and tours are free. Visitors can get aboard a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, a frigate or a U.S. Coast Guard cutter. Tours are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, starting at 11 a.m.

Parking and bus transportation will be available at Everett Transit Station, at 32nd Street and Smith Ave., or at the Everett Marina, at 13th and 18th streets along W. Marine View Drive. Random airport-type screenings are expected; be prepared to present a photo identification.

You can find information and updates at the base information hotline at 425-304-5665 or online at www.cnic.navy.mil/everett/index.htm.
