Owen Forbes, director of testing for the Everett School District, was named assistant superintendent of schools for grades K-12. He succeeded Robert Groeschell whose resignation was accepted by the Board of Education with regret. Dorothy Baker, was named director of secondary education and Dixon Dahl was named director of elementary education.
Jill Hosterman and Jeff Griffiths, Girls Club and Associated Student body presidents, respectively, were to attend the Annual Student Leaders Conference in Seabeck sponsored by the State High Schools Principals Association, said August Buse, principal of Marysville High School.

Access to the GTE Northwest's headquarters been changed with closure of the 41st Street entrance closed. Visitors now had to park and enter on Colby Avenue Completion of the new south wing was scheduled for mid-September and renovation of existing building would begin in August.
Scott Paper Co., citing fire danger, announced that it was closing its forest lands in Snohomish, King, Skagit and Whatcom counties to all recreational use. In Snohomish County gates would be closed at Wheeler Mountain, Lower Worthy Creek, Mud Lake, Scotty Ranch and Scherrier Road.
