WNBA hands out several awards

Connecticut's Tina Charles and Los Angeles' Candace Parker were named the WNBA's Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Month for June respectively on Monday.

Charles led the Sun to a 7-3 record in the month, averaging 17.9 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

Parker's Sparks went 6-5 with her averaging 18.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Phoenix Mercury guard Samantha Prahalis was also named the WNBA's Rookie of the Month. Prahalis has played well in the absence of guard Diana Taurasi, who has missed time with a strained hip flexor. Some of Prahalis's highlights for the month include a career-high 22 points and four steals in a June 23 loss to Los Angeles and a 20 point, three assist effort in a June 27 loss to Minnesota.

The league also named its Players of the Week for June 25-July 1 on Monday. San Antonio's Sophia Young was named the Western Conference Player of the Week and Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Young helped the Silver Stars to a 2-0 record in the week averaging 22.5 points per game.

The Dream went 2-1 and McCoughtry averaged 22.3 points per game.
