AquaSox fall 7-6 in 12 innings to Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Everett AquaSox let this one slip away.
Everett couldn't hold onto a two-run ninth-inning lead, and the Sox fell to the Eugene Emeralds 7-6 in 12 innings Thursday night in Northwest League play.
Ronnie Richardson's long single in the bottom of the 12th scored Corey Adamson from third to end the game.
The loss gave Everett (15-6) its first back-to-back defeats of the season.
Patrick Kivlehan homered twice to lead the Sox. Alfredo Morales also homered, while Jamodrick McGruder went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases.
Jason Hagerty homered and Chris Burke went 3-for-3 for Eugene (11-9).
Everett led 6-4 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. However, the Emeralds refused to go quietly as they rallied against reliever Brandon Plotz. Plotz breezed through the previous two innings, but Ronnie Richardson's one-out RBI single in the ninth made it a one-run game. The Emeralds then loaded the bases, and Dane Phillips' sacrifice fly knotted the score.
Then the Emeralds won it in the 12th. With one on and one out, Burke hit a double over the head of McGruder in left field. Corey Adamson would have scored on the play, but the ball hopped over the fence for a ground-rule double, forcing Adamson to hold third. The reprieve was temporary as, after a walk loaded the bases, Richardson hit the ball over the head of center fielder Mike Faulkner, who was playing shallow.
Joe Church, the last of eight pitchers used by Eugene, picked up the win after throwing two scoreless innings.
Mark Bordonaro suffered the loss for Everett.
Kivlehan opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when he led off with a solo home run the opposite direction to right field, giving the Sox a 1-0 lead. The Sox added to their lead in the fifth when, with two on and two out, Morales launched a no-doubt homer to right, giving Everett a 4-0 lead.
Everett starting pitcher Jose Valdivia was virtually untouchable through four innings, allowing just one hit. But the Emeralds jumped on him in the fifth.
Eugene loaded the bases with one out when Stephen Carmon grounded a two-run single down the third-base line to get the Emeralds on the scoreboard. Richardson followed by beating out a suicide squeeze bunt for a single, and just like that Everett's lead was cut to one.
Everett responded immediately in the sixth when McGruder's drag bunt scored Faulkner from third to make it 5-3.
Eugene pulled within one again in the bottom of the sixth when Hagerty belted a solo homer to dead center.
But Everett again responded immediately as Kivlehan, leading off the top of the seventh, hit his second solo homer of the game, this time to left, making it 6-4.
