MONROE — People planning to use Highway 522 will need to find an alternate route Monday night.
The state Department of Transportation is planning a full closure from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m that night. The closure is to complete the final striping at the interchange between the highway and U.S. 2. During this time, drivers will be detoured on 164th Street SE.
The work is weather dependent.
Single-lane closures for Highway 522 are also planned from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, southwest of Monroe near the Snohomish River. The closures are done so crews can remove debris to make space for new lanes.
Drivers should expect a maximum delays of 10 minutes, spokeswoman Meghan Pembroke said.
Crews are removing debris so they can an blast up to 300,000 cubic yards of rock. These blastings have been rescheduled for the end of July, Pembroke said.
This work is part of a $128.8 million project to widen Highway 522 to four lanes over a four-mile stretch from 179th Avenue SE to the Snohomish River bridge. A concrete-barrier median will be installed to prevent head-on collisions. Four new bridges also are planned.
