EVERETT — A man apparently ran away from the scene after the car he was driving crashed and caught fire on the U.S. 2 trestle Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators believe the 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII got onto the westbound trestle about 2:15 p.m., said trooper Keith Leary with the Washington State Patrol.
The car apparently struck a guardrail and then caught fire.
The driver crossed the trestle and pulled onto the shoulder where U.S. 2 goes underneath I-5 in Everett.
He ran away, but police were able to talk to two passengers, 21 and 14, Leary said. The passengers were unable to provide many details about what happened. The teenager was picked up by a parent.
No injuries were reported in the fire. The car was registered out of Bremerton.
Traffic was backed up in the area for at least an hour.
“There is going to be some investigation going to find out if we can get ahold of this driver,” Leary said.
