Learn Edmonds cemetery's secrets at guided tour

Cemeteries aren't just filled with ghosts and zombies (OK, forget the zombies). They are filled with history.
A guided tour of the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery and Columbarium invites guests to learn more about who is buried there, including 19 of Edmonds 34 mayors and soldiers from as far back as the Spanish American and Civil wars.
The "Walk Back in Time" cemetery tour is guided by cemetery board members dressed in period outfits.
Besides the tour guides, the event includes several "ghosts" throughout the cemetery telling their own life stories. Edmonds founding father, George Brackett -- played by actor John Hartquist -- is making an appearance.
The tour is divided into three sections and is about 45 minutes long.
In 1982, the 6.5-acre cemetery, which was overgrown and messy, was bought by Larry Hubbard, who gave it to the city of Edmonds. Since then, volunteers have restored it to landmark luster.
The tour starts at 1 p.m. Thursday at the cemetery, 100th Avenue W. and 15th Street SW, Edmonds. Street parking is available. The tour is free and refreshments will be served.
