"A Midsummer's Ice Cream:" is the theme of an ice cream social from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Sunday. It will be hosted by Trinity Lutheran College for neighbors of the downtown Everett campus. There will be ice cream and live music, open-mic style, for all who come to the ground floor of the college at 2802 Wetmore Ave., Everett. The school is affiliated with local churches, but organizers did not plan sermons or praise songs for the event. Sponsored by the Emmaus Community, it is meant to be a welcoming event for the entire community.
Bluegrass band: Bryant Community Church in Arlington will host the Pearce Family Bluegrass Band at its 11 a.m. service Sunday. The band, formed in 1986, will lead the service. Doub Pearce has performed and recorded as a bass player with artists including Gary Puckett and the late Johnny Cash. The group has two CDs, "Not for Sale" and "Guilty," and band members credit their talents to God. An offering will be taken. The church is at 26830 53rd Ave. NE, Arlington. Free piano concert: A free piano concert featuring John Nilsen is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Everett, 2936 Rockefeller Ave.
Torah Studies: Chabad Jewish Center of Snohomish County will present classes from a Torah Studies program developed by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute. Minister from Costa Rica: The Rev. Juan Erique Toro will speak 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Everett Unity Center for Positive Living. Saturday's event, a workshop titled "What Could We Possibly Want that Forgiveness Does Not Give?" will be in the church's downstairs social hall. Toro once worked as an electrical engineer in Alaska. He has been involved in spiritual tourism in Costa Rica and represented the Association of Unity Churches at the Parliament of World Religions. Community Worship Service: First Baptist Church of Everett hosts a Community Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. the third Friday of each month in the main worship center, 1616 Pacific Ave. Music provided by the Rev. "Splash In God's Word" is the theme of a vacation Bible school 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church of North Lakewood. The Bible school is free. Mega Sports Camp: View Ridge Community Church is sponsoring a free Mega Sports Camp at 9 a.m. July 23-July 27 at Madison Elementary School, 616 Pecks Dr., Everett. The camp is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade interested in basketball, baseball, soccer or cheer leading. There will be snacks and music daily. Salt of the Earth Soup Kitchen: noon Tuesdays at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Free sack lunches or hot meals served to the homeless, low-income seniors and families, and kids on the street. Volunteers, able to lift 50 pounds and use stairs, are needed to help cook, set up, serve and clean up. A box truck, the size of a U-Haul truck, is needed to pick up food for food banks.
