SNOHOMISH — Work is scheduled to begin this week on construction of an overpass along U.S. 2 at Bickford Avenue.
The $22.4 million project will feature a new on-ramp for drivers headed from westbound Bickford Avenue to westbound U.S. 2. Currently, they must dart across the eastbound lanes of U.S. 2 to reach the other side of the highway.
The project also will include a new off-ramp to Bickford for eastbound highway drivers, and a new eastbound on-ramp from Bickford.
The work is expected to take until autumn 2013, with some traffic disruptions coming.
The work this week will consist mostly of surveying and dirt moving to prevent erosion, said Bronlea Mishler, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation. It will involve shoulder work only and no lane closures, she said.
Some nighttime lane closures will be needed *Wednesday and Thursday, July 25 and 26, to place temporary concrete barriers and paint new stripes for interim lane configurations, Mishler said. One eastbound lane will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., while one westbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Both lanes of eastbound U.S. 2 are scheduled to be closed the entire weekend of Aug. 3-5 for culvert work. The lanes will close at 10 a.m. Aug. 3 and reopen at 5 a.m. Aug. 5.
