Lost man finds his group, hikes out safely

VERLOT -- A rescue operation Tuesday ended with a hiker lost on Mount Pilchuck reuniting with his party and walking out on his own.
The man used his cellphone to call a U.S. Forest Service help center about 3 p.m., Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.
Emergency crews were not able to reach the man on his phone, likely because of poor reception in the area.
They sent a helicopter to the area and mobilized a search.
By 4 p.m., the man reconnected with his group and was reported hiking out unharmed. Ireton said.
