Bass are the hot target right now in and around Potholes Reservoir, according to Nick Barr, spokesman for MarDon Resort.
This is prime time for big largemouth bass in the reservoir’s north end sand dunes. Bass to 7-plus pounds are waiting.
Rock piles on the south end of the lake, and rip-rap across the face of the dam, along with most of the Lind Coulee arm, are putting out 50-fish days, Barr said.
Hutchinson and Shiner lakes, below Potholes on the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, also are putting out top largemouth fishing. Hutchinson produced an 8-pound, 4-ounce trophy recently.
Barr said there’s a lot of elbow room on the Potholes canal system — Soda, Long, and Crescent lakes — for quality smallmouth to 4 pounds and largemouth to 6 pounds or more.
