Help shape Stanwood
A team from the American Institute of Architects plans to visit the Stanwood-Camano-Warm Beach area next week to provide ideas for the future of the region.
People in the area are encouraged to attend a session with the design team from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Stanwood Middle School cafeteria, 9405 271st St. NW. At the session, people can offer their suggestions to make their community more economically sustainable, better looking and healthier.

Delays possible on Stevens Pass: People traveling across Stevens Pass on U.S. 2 should plan for delays up to 20 minutes Monday through Thursday as crews remove boulders from the mountainside above the highway.
Flaggers will stop traffic periodically westbound at the summit at milepost 64.5 and eastbound three miles east of Scenic at milepost 61.5 near Tunnel Creek.
Electronic message signs on both sides of the pass are alerting drivers to the closures.
Crews have been working since May to stabilize four slopes along the highway. While doing the work, they found fractures in a section of hillside that they planned to stabilize with rock bolts.
Now they have to remove rock that can't be stabilized safely. These rocks are large enough to break through the concrete barriers that protect travelers on the highway below.
This $5.5 million project won't be complete until next year. After the scaling, the slopes will be rock bolted, then draped with steel nets.
