Big recycling event: Edmonds Lutheran Church is joining with 1 Green Planet to host a recycling event 9 a.m.-2 p.m. today in the church parking lot at 23525 84th Ave. W., Edmonds. Large and small items will be accepted, including: computers, laptops, printers, computer parts, faxes, scanners, modems, wires, toners, computer batteries, washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, CD and DVD players, speakers, TV monitors, bikes, motorcycles, boats, cars, trucks, batteries, barbeques, lawn mowers, fitness equipment, medical equipment, aluminum cans, newspapers and books.

Two faiths together: The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, Seattle Chapter, which has a center in Lynnwood, and Temple B’nai Torah in Bellevue will come together to observe the Muslim fast of Ramadan and the Jewish fast of Tisha B’av at 7 p.m. July 29 at the temple, 15727 NE Fourth St., Bellevue. There will be a combined evening service of breaking the fast together, a presentation on Ramadam, and Holy Quran and Torah exhibitions.

Unity talk: “Fear Not” is the topic of a talk by Ray Holman at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Everett Unity Center for Positive Living. Holman is the author of “Healing Self, Healing Earth: Awakening Presence, Power, and Passion” and “Poems from the Passionate Heart: Reflections on Healing and Awakening.” A certified yoga and meditation instructor, Holman also presents a weekly health and healing commentary on KSER (90.7 FM). Welcome services: Spirit of Grace United Methodist Church will hold two special worship services outside its church to welcome people. Free sack lunches or hot meals served to the homeless, low-income seniors and families, and kids on the street. Volunteers, able to lift 50 pounds and use stairs, are needed to help cook, set up, serve and clean up. A box truck, the size of a U-Haul truck, is needed to pick up food for food banks.
