Tips extend Mitch Love's contract
The Silvertips announced today that assistant coach Mitch Love has signed a two-year contract extension. Love, a former Tips captain and one of the most popular players in franchise history, made his coaching debut last season with the Tips.
Interestingly, the press release referred to Love strictly as an assistant coach. When he was first hired Love was designed as both an assistant coach and a strength and conditioning coach. Does this mean Love's duties will be contained to hockey in the coming two seasons? And is it an indication that the Tips will have a separate strength and conditioning coach? I've heard rumors suggesting that possibility, but there's no sign of a strength and conditioning coach on the team's website.
The press release goes on to say the entire coaching staff, including head coach Mark Ferner and assistant coach Chris Hartsburg, will remain intact for 2012-13. I was under the impression that Hartsburg's contract was up this offseason as well. Either that impression was wrong, or Hartsburg was also extended and I missed it. Did I happen to be hiking that day?
