EVERETT -- One of the most popular figures in Everett Silvertips history is sticking around a little longer.

The Silvertips have signed assistant coach Mitch Love to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Friday.

"After observing the quality of our coaching staff and my discussions with (head coach Mark) Ferner, it became very obvious that Mitch was deserving of a contract extension," Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson said in a press release. "I think he has aspirations of becoming a career coach and has already demonstrated qualities that will make him a very successful one in the years to come. Mitch has a long history with our organization and we're happy to keep him on our staff."

Love, who was a fan favorite when he played for Everett during the inaugural season in 2003-04 and who captained the Tips in 2004-05, began his coaching career with Everett last season.

"I'm very excited to be staying with the Silvertips," Love said in the release. "This area has been home since my playing days in this organization, so it means a lot to me and my family to have an opportunity here. We've got a great staff and I'm looking forward to working with an exciting young group of players as we move forward to pursue our ultimate goal of winning a championship."

The release went on to say Everett's coaching staff, including Ferner and assistant coach Chris Hartsburg, will remain unchanged for the 2012-13 season.
