"Quality of life" is a common phrase with a million meanings.

Most people would agree it has something to do with taking part in life rather than watching from the sidelines. To take part, you need good health, proper nutrition and sleep, and absorbing activities.

In this edition of Vitality, we tackle all those topics.

• You can also read an interview with Karl Pillemer, author of "30 Lessons of Living: Tried and True Advice From the Wisest Americans." He says older people are happier because they've learned some of life's lessons.
