Highway 522 rock blasting gets started (video)

On Monday, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation closed Highway 522 near Monroe to start the first of many blasts needed to excavate a small hillside for an expansion of the road. WSDOT took videos of the first two blasts and posted the video on YouTube:

The DOT is blasting 300,000 cubic yards of rock to widen the Highway 522. More closures are planned at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 6, 8 and 10.
