The topsail ketch will berth near Anthony's Homeport restaurant, 1726 W Marine View Drive, Everett.
The ship will be open for walk-on tours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 15. Crew in period costume will welcome visitors and explain Hawaiian Chieftain's mission as a sail-training and education vessel specializing in K-12 learning experiences. A ticket is not required for the tours, although a $3 donation per person is appreciated.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 15, the ship will take guests on an evening sail, which features a chance to raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, and take the wheel of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. Tickets for the evening sail are $29 each and may be purchased online at www.historicalseaport.org or by calling 800-200-5239. Early reservations are strongly recommended.
Sailing to more than 50 ports a year in Washington, Oregon, California, and British Columbia, the steel-hulled Hawaiian Chieftain was launched in Lahaina, Hawaii, in 1988. The Hawaiian Chieftain is usually accompanied by the tall ship Lady Washington. However, the Lady Washington is scheduled on a private charter in Port Angeles during Hawaiian Chieftain's Everett visit.
