EVERETT -- The Everett Silvertips announced Wednesday they have signed defenseman Kevin Davis to a Western Hockey League educational contract.

Davis, 15, was the Silvertips' first-round pick in the 2012 WHL bantam draft.

"We're very excited that Kevin has committed to the WHL and to our program," Everett general manager Garry Davidson said in a press release. "He's an impressive young player with terrific potential and upside, and it's a big plus that he is a quality person off the ice as well."

Davis, 6-foot and 155 pounds, was the 11th overall pick in this year's draft. A native of Kamloops, British Columbia, he played last season for the Kamloops Jardine Bantam Blazers. In 49 games, he scored 46 points (15 goals and 31 assists).

"He had the chance last month to join some of the best players in his age group at a mentorship camp put on by the NHL Players' Association, and by all reports he played very well there," Davidson said. "We're looking forward to having him in our training camp as a signed player in a few weeks."

The Silvertips report for training camp on Aug. 22. Their first on-ice workout is scheduled for Aug. 23. The annual Green-vs.-Grey intrasquad game is Aug. 26.
