Wildlife biologist Dana Base, in the state’s Colville office, is the big game/turkey guru of northeast Washington, and he and a friend decided to drive to Brewster last week to put some Columbia sockeye in the freezer. They fanned miserably on the salmon — one hit all day and that one threw the hook when the kicker quit in the very crowded center of a pack of 100 boats off the mouth of the Okanogan — so the next day they went to plan B.
Fishing on Chelan with one of Anton Jones’ guides (Darrell & Dad’s Family Guide Service), Base nailed a pot-bellied Mac of 17-plus pounds.
That’s a pretty decent plan B.
