Summer should finally arrive -- for a bit

EVERETT -- Count on Saturday to be the warmest day of the year so far.
Think beaches, shade trees and frozen treats -- the closest we've come to the hot, dry weather most of the rest of the country has been living through for the past few months.
Johnny Burg, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Seattle, expects the entire weekend to be a good one, with highs today in the upper 70s in the Everett area.
Clear skies should raise the temperature to 84 or more Saturday and remain near 80 Sunday, Burg said. Nighttime temperatures should remain mild. The clouds are expected to roll back in Sunday evening, decreasing temperatures on Monday to the mid-70s.
"When I say we're going to have a nice weekend, I always have to remember that some people think 80 degrees is too hot," Burg said.
The forecast calls for slightly higher temperatures in Seattle, where people will be watching the Seafair hydroplane races and the Blue Angels air show over Lake Washington. Forecasters also say temperatures in Eastern Washington should climb into the 90s. July was cooler and wetter than normal in Snohomish County, so this weekend should truly feel like summer, Burg said.
"I wouldn't rule out another warm spell later in August or even into September," he said. "While most days we will have typical morning clouds that burn off by the afternoon, we do have more summer to come."
Even though the weather is expected to be warm, rivers in the county are still running cold and fast. Law enforcement officials recommend caution in all outdoor activities.
