Terror at 13,000 mph

Marvin the Martian's waiting: NASA's latest mission to Mars, the Curiosity rover, is scheduled to land on the Red Planet late Sunday night. A new NASA video that has gone viral on YouTube, describes its descent to the surfaces as "7 minutes of terror," as it slows from 13,000 mph to its landing at 2 mph hour.

A follow-up video, "14 minutes of terror," will show NASA scientists sweating it out as they wait to find out if the rover is more than a $2.5 billion pile of scrap littered across the martian surface.

Never mind the lipstick, give it a cough drop: With state- and county-fair season approaching, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning people to take care around pigs because of a new strain of swine flu that spreads from animals to people. Ten recent cases were linked to a county fair in Ohio.

Still, we'd rather take our chances with the pigs, than with most of what's deep-fried and sold on a stick at the fair.

It wasn't us, honest: The Facebook pages of several Major League Baseball teams were hacked Thursday, including those of the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. A false item was posted on the Yankees' Facebook page that said shortstop Derek Jeter had undergone a sex change operation.

Oh, we know it wasn't true. We just wonder how many people "liked" it before it was taken down.
