Athletes do reflect America's best

Regarding John Burbank's Wednesday column, "Olympic athletes reflect the best in us": Indeed, the Olympic athletes reflect the best of America. Every time our Olympians stand at the podium to receive a medal -- gold, silver or bronze -- and our flag is hoisted up and their lips mouth our "Star-Spangled Banner" and their eyes start to well with tears, then somehow a single dropped tear with "...that the flag is still there..." Missy Franklin, the 17-year-old swimmer, did that. She reflects the best of America. Our youth. The emblem of hope for the future of this country.
Wake up, America! Show your love for this country and make sure in the coming four years, not only that our flag still stands there and that it also waves fiercely, reflecting our values, our beliefs in free enterprise and strong government.
