Emergency crews found the man asking for medical attention at an Edmonds convenience store about 10:15 a.m., police Sgt. Mike Blackburn said.
About the same time, the manager of an Edmonds motel called 911 to report a pool of blood outside one of the rooms.
Both businesses are near the intersection of Highway 99 and 238th Street SW.
Investigators believe the man broke the window to get into the room, Blackburn said. He then stepped on a chair inside.
"The chair apparently collapsed beneath his considerable weight, causing him to fall back against the broken remnants of the glass pane," Blackburn said.
The man then reportedly rummaged through the room, grabbed some items that weren't his and ran a few blocks before realizing he needed emergency medical care, Blackburn said. He left a significant amount of blood behind.
The man, 20, of Seattle, was treated at a hospital before being booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of burglary.
A Lynnwood police dog helped search for the stolen goods, which were found in some bushes nearby, Blackburn said. Police believe they recovered all of the items taken.
