Terrell Owens' debut was apparently a CBA violation
So, about that much-hyped first practice for Terrell Owens. Apparently it was a violation of the league's collective bargaining agreement. It wasn't against the rules for Owens to be practicing Wednesday, but he should not have been doing so in shoulder pads so soon after signing.
A team spokesman acknowledged that the Seahawks did in fact inadvertently violate the CBA. No word yet on what, if any, punishment will come down.
According to the CBA, newly signed players can't practice in pads until their fourth day with the team, which in Owens' case was today. His first day, for the purposes of this rule, was Monday when he took a physical and signed. Day 2 was Tuesday when he went through a walkthrough and meetings, and Day 3 was Wednesday's practice.
This is not the first time the Seahawks have run afoul of the new CBA. In June, Seattle was docked two OTA practices because an earlier practice had involved too much contact.
