LAKE STEVENS -- Neighbors helped a woman to safety after a fire broke out Wednesday night in her Lake Stevens condominium, officials said.

The fire was reported around 10 p.m. off Meridian Place NE in Lake Stevens.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was asleep on a living room couch when a fire started in the master bedroom, Lake Stevens fire marshal Robert Marshall said.

Her home was part of a six-unit complex.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It appears to have been accidentally set, Marshall said.

One neighbor kicked in the front door and another was boosted up to a balcony and entered through a sliding door.

The woman was not injured, but her home sustained extensive damage.

Total damage from the fire and water used to suppress it is estimated at about $200,000.
