EVERETT -- While the Everett Silvertips are less than a week away from the start of training camp, they continue to give themselves roster options.
On the day Everett announced its training camp schedule, the Tips acquired overage defenseman Landon Oslanski off waivers Thursday from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Oslanski is a three-year veteran of the WHL. The 6-foot, 202-pound native of Camrose, Alberta, had six goals, 26 assists and 94 penalty minutes in 71 games last season with the Hurricanes. He was originally a third-round pick by Spokane in the 2007 bantam draft.
Oslanski's acquisition gives Everett another experienced option on defense. The Tips could be without their top four defensmen from last season. Brennan Yadlowski and Josh Caron graduated as overagers, Dominik Bittner signed to play professionally in his native Germany and Ryan Murray is a strong candidate to stick with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets as a 19-year-old.
Oslanski's addition gives Everett five candidates for its three overage roster slots. Forwards JT Barnett, Cody Fowlie and Ryan Harrison return from last season. Goaltender Brandon Anderson was acquired in July from the Brandon Wheat Kings. Anderson is a candidate to play professionally this season as he's already signed a contract with the NHL's Washington Capitals.
Everett also announced its training camp schedule Thursday. The players report Wednesday, then on ice sessions take place the following four days. The players will be split into four teams, with each team having a practice session in the morning and participating in a scrimmage in the afternoon. All sessions take place at the Comcast Community Ice Rink and are open free to the public.
Training camp concludes with the annual Green vs. Grey Game at 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Comcast Community Ice Rink. Admission is free with the donation of one non-perishable food item, which will be given to the Volunteers of America Everett Food Bank.
