VERLOT -- A sheriff's helicopter crew rescued an Everett woman suffering from a medical emergency Saturday while hiking near Island Lake.

Search and rescue crews received notice around 7:45 a.m. that someone had triggered an emergency beacon from an area off the Mountain Loop Highway, east of Granite Falls. The crew confirmed that a diabetic woman needed immediate medical attention, according to Snohomish County sheriff's Lt. Rodney Rochon.

The helicopter crew located the woman on a small island in Island Lake. She was lifted onto the helicopter and flown to the Verlot ranger station. Paramedics took her to a local hospital for additional care.

The woman was expected to make a full recovery, Rochon said.
