Firefighters battle hot, dry conditions in Oregon

PORTLAND -- Oregon's largest wildfire, and the one that poses the biggest threat to people, made short runs Saturday morning but has generally been kept at bay despite wind gusts that reached 40 mph.
The Barry Point fire, sparked by lightning near Lakeview, is in difficult terrain. The Oregon National Guard deployed three helicopters capable of carrying 500 to 1,000 gallons of water each as firefighters cope with a hot and dry weekend with plenty of lightning.
Evacuations remain in force for about 30 homes outside Lakeview as the Barry Point fire continues to grow. It is burning on about 90,000 acres.
In the Willamette National Forest, firefighters dealt with seven new fires reported Saturday, all started by a lightning storm that passed through the area in the early morning hours.
