Seahawks reportedly shopping QB Jackson

It's become increasingly clear over the past two weeks that Tarvaris Jackson is on the outside looking in when it comes to the Seahawks' quarterback competition. Yes, Pete Carroll said last Tuesday, as well as the week before, that Jackson was still part of the competition, but by keeping Jackson out of the first two preseason games, and by cutting his practice reps way back, all signs point to the battle now being between Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson, with Jackson being the odd man out.

This, of course, would lead most people to assume Jackson's time in Seattle is limited. He's due $4 million this season, which would be a pretty hefty sum to pay a backup, and a ridiculous amount of money for a No. 3 quarterback. There was speculation that Seattle was holding Jackson out of games to keep him from getting hurt (forcing Seattle to pay him) and now CBSSpots.com's Jason LaCanfora is reporting that the Seahawks will try to trade Jackson. According to the report, Jackson is willing to restructure his contract, which would seem necessary to move him considering any team that trades for him would likely be doing so to make him a backup.

The big question, obviously, is whether or not any team is willing to give up a draft pick, even a late-round one, to get Jackson. He certainly has value as an above-average backup, but NFL teams that might be interested are also aware of what is going on in Seattle. At this point it seems very unlikely the Seahawks are going to keep Jackson, so if you were an interested team, would you make the trade, or just wait a week and see if the Seahawks release him? That's what we'll likely find out this week. If there are a few teams interested, or if the Seahawks can convince one interested team that there is a market for Jackson, then maybe the Seahawks get a conditional late-round pick. If there aren't any takers, however, don't be surprised if the Seahawks release Jackson sometime between now and the first week of the season.
