Arlington: Senior center needs teachers

The Stillaguamish Senior Center is holding a beginning computer class and a variety of dance classes starting in September.

People who want to teach are asked to call 360-653-4551.

Lake Stevens: Police, firefighters play in softball showdown

The annual Guns 'n Hoses Softball Challenge in Lake Stevens is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Stevens High School baseball field, 2908 113th Ave. NE.

The game is a friendly competition between police officers and firefighters, said Laana Larson, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens.

Admission is one new toy or one box of macaroni and cheese per person.

All proceeds go to the Lake Stevens Food Bank and the Lake Stevens Family Center.

Monroe: Highway 522 to close Wednesday

Crews for the Washington State Department of Transportation are scheduled to close Highway 522 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday between Fales/Echo Lake road and 164th Street SE.

Crews will remove trees and rocks near the highway. No rock blasting is scheduled for Wednesday.

Drivers should add at least 20 minutes to their commute while they take Highway 9 and U.S. 2 as detours.

Snohomish: Apply for funding to promote tourism

Snohomish is accepting applications from non-profit agencies that want to promote the city as a tourism destination.

The city can give a total of $8,500 to projects scheduled to be completed before Dec. 31, 2013. The funds come from lodging taxes.

Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.

Applications can be submitted either in person or by email at emge@ci.snohomish.wa.us.

A project's presentation must be given to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee during a meeting set for 6 p.m. Sept. 19, at City Hall.
