KETCHIKAN, Alaska -- The former mayor of the southeast Alaska city of Ketchikan has been sentenced to 35 years with 18 suspended for seven counts of possessing child pornography.
The Ketchikan Daily News reports Jack Shay, 81, was sentenced Monday in Ketchikan Superior Court. With good behavior, he could be out in 12 years.
In exchange for the guilty plea in May, prosecutors dropped 84 other charges against him.
Shay was arrested in November. Police say he took his computer and printer to a repair shop and employees found child pornography on the machine. Prosecutors said he also produced child pornography.
The longtime public official served stints as mayor for both the city and borough. He was a member of Ketchikan City Council at the time of his arrest.
