United adds Boeing 787 international routes

United Airlines announced international routes that will be flown by the carrier's Boeing Co. 787 aircraft.

When United receives its first Dreamliner next month, it will become the first North American carrier to operate a 787.

The airline already outlined plans to fly the 787 between Denver and Tokyo.

On Thursday, United added several other 787 international routes including:

Los Angeles to Tokyo's Narita airport, starting Jan. 3, 2013.

Houston to Lagos, Nigeria, beginning Jan. 7, 2013.

Los Angeles to Shanghai, beginning March 30, 2013.

Temporary service between Houston and Amsterdam, beginning Dec. 4; Houston to London Heathrow, beginning Feb. 4, 2013.

"With 50 787s on order, we look forward to the many new route opportunities that will become available to United and our customers in the future," Greg Hart, a senior vice president at United, said in a statement.
