Some players who caught my eye on day two:

- Among the veterans, winger Trent Lofthouse looks much more confident carrying the puck, and he showed it both days. At times he's been perhaps a tad too confident. Defenseman Austin Adam looks assured and ready for an expanded role. Winger Zach McPhee responded to Blue's 8-0 loss on day one by playing more physical and adding a couple points. Center Manraj Hayer looked good today, too.

- A couple of 16-year-olds who caught my eye were center Tyler Sandhu and defenseman Carter Cochrane. Sandhu, acquired in the Seth Jones trade, is a nice little player. Good hands, good vision, quick and tenacious. He's small, so the question is whether he's physically ready for the rigors of the WHL. But between Sandhu, Ty Mappin and Dawson Leedahl the Tips have three 16-year-old forwards making a case. Cochrane, a listed player, showed a lot of different things, throwing some big hits and also showing an ability to rush the puck. I figured it was a longshot for a 16-year-old defenseman to make the team this season, given how many 17-year-old candidates the Tips have. But between Cochrane and Micheal Zipp the Tips have two 16s who appear closer to being ready that I was expecting.

- Everett's invited players this year include more older players than in years past, and some of those players have been productive. Eighteen-year-old Matti Jmaeff was the guy Thursday, 17-year-old Tre Potskin was the guy today. Both did a good job of putting themselves in good positions. Seventeen-year-old Miles Manson used his quickness to get on the scoreboard both days.

- The standout among the goaltenders today was invitee Troy Trombley. The 18-year-old, a third-round pick in the 2009 bantam draft by Kamloops, stopped all 31 shots he faced in his two scrimmages, including 18 during frantic 15-minute stint in the afternoon. His 6-foot-7 frame covers a lot of the net.

- The story on 16-year-old forward Mitch Skapski, who isn't attending camp, is that he was promised one of the two available 16-year-old roster slots with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL this season. Therefore, the other 16-year-old forward acquired in the Jones trade is commiting his time to them.
