While you’re at the fair, step up and subscribe

"Step right up. Tell you what I'm gonna do."

You'll probably be accosted by hawkers of Magic Mops and ShamWows at the Evergreen State Fair if you happen to wander into the vendor corridor.

But wait. Don't turn back. Head for the big banner that says "Come One, Come All."

Under the circus sign you'll find Herald folks in neat red polo shirts handing out candy and carnival toys, running the ring toss and wheel spinner for prizes, and ready and willing to tell you all about our fair-only subscription deals.

You can't miss our booth. We're at the north end of the fairgrounds, upwind of the horse arena, the same lucky location we've had for years.

Just stop by and you might win a year's free subscription to The Herald. We'll also hand out Daily Deal bucks worth $10 toward our online Daily Deals at heraldnet.com.

Game prizes include things like tickets to Silvertips games and stuffed animals.

Speaking of stuffed animals, Scoop, our big dog mascot, a regular at the fair, may be allowed at our booth if he promises to get a bath first. He's been to a lot of fairs over the years.

So what about those subscription deals?

New subscribers can get 26 weeks for $26, either three- or seven-day delivery. And a six-month Sunday-only subscription is $19.95.

If new subscribers want to step up to a 12-month subscription, it's $64.95 for seven-day delivery, $48.95 for three-day delivery and $38.95 for Sundays only. We'll toss in a free Entertainment coupon book worth about $35 for 12-month subscribers.

Our current full-price subscribers will get special fair-only renewal rates and free Entertainment books: A seven-day prepaid 12-month renewal is $186, a three-day is $144, and it's $120 for a one-day 12-month subscription. To speed things along, bring along a copy of your invoice proving that you are a full-price current subscriber.

Subscribers also can find out how to sign up for our free email newsletter, which includes coupons, special deals from our advertisers and tipoffs about upcoming stories. The newsletter is sent out once a month.

We'll be at the booth by the horse arena, all day, every day at the fairgrounds in Monroe till the last Purple Cow bell rings on Labor Day.

Each week, Here at the Herald provides an inside peek at the newspaper. Is there something you would like to know? Email executive editor Neal Pattison at npattison@heraldnet.com.
