EVERETT -- Fire caused extensive damage to a home east of Everett on Monday morning.
Two men taking a walk noticed wispy smoke coming from the peak of the home's roof in the 3900 block of 116th St. SE, east of Silver Lake, officials said.
They called 911 around 9:40 a.m.
No one was home at the time, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
"The home is heavily damaged," Hynes said. "The roof collapsed and there was damage to the whole upper level."
Firefighters rescued a dog, named Shadow, and later found another dog, named Violet, safe. Both are German shepherds.
A fire investigator was at the scene Monday searching for a cause.
"I don't know the dollar loss but it was significant," Hynes said.
The Snohomish County chapter of the American Red Cross was helping the family find emergency accommodations.
