New engineering lab for WSU Tri-Cities
The building will be used for testing for the Hanford vitrification plant, which will turn radioactive waste into glass logs for long-term storage.
The Tri-City Herald reported that the lab was built by EnergySolutions, which has a subcontract for the testing. The company turned the lab over to Washington State University Tri-Cities but is leasing it back for the vitrification testing.
After that work, WSU Tri-Cities will have full use of the building for engineering programs and research that could include work on biofuels or wine science.
