Associated Press
YAKIMA -- Officials say a wildfire near Yakima in central Washington has burned about 960 acres and prompted the evacuation of about 30 homes.
There were no reports of homes burning in the Wenas Fire. State Department of Natural Resources officials said it was about 30 percent contained late Friday.
The fire that started earlier in the day is burning in grass and sagebrush.
Nine aircraft including four helicopters are being used to fight the fire and bulldozers are working to build containment lines to flank it.
State and U.S. Forest Service firefighters have joined crews from Yakima and Kittitas counties.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
