INDEX — An effort to recover the body of a 30-year-old Everett man is scheduled for Monday.

Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue is planning the operation after it found the body of a missing hiker on Sunday morning. The team was unable to recover it by helicopter because of the terrain, said Lt. Steve Dittoe, of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, the man and his brother were hiking to Lake Simms, east of Index. The brothers got separated but were able to communicate by shouting to each other.

At some point, the man was no longer responding to his brother’s yells. When he reached the end of the trail and couldn’t find the hiker, he called 911, Dittoe said.

It is believed the man died in a fall, Dittoe said.

The man was described as an experienced hiker and had extra clothing and food, Dittoe said.
