CG Engineering in Edmonds has announced the addition of Amber Maechler as marketing and business development manager. Maechler brings nearly a decade of experience in marketing management and creative services. Her primary role will be to support the CG team through marketing the firm’s structural and civil engineering services to owners, developers, architects and contractors in 11 states.
Everett Public Schools Foundation has welcomed Julie Frauenholtz as the new development coordinator. Frauenholtz will provide staff leadership for the Foundation’s fundraising and marketing efforts. For the past 20 years, she has worked in non-profit management, community organizing and fund development, including 13 years with YMCA of Snohomish County and as a trainer and consultant for DSHS Children’s Administration.
1st Security Bank has appointed Lisa Palmer to the position of loan officer. Palmer comes to 1st Security Bank from Sterling Bank, which she joined in 2001. She has been voted a Five Star Mortgage Originator by Seattle Magazine three times.
David Allen is the new director of the nursing and health studies program at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus. Before joining UW-Bothell, Allen was the chairman of the gender, women and sexuality studies department at the University of Washington.. He
earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, with a specialty in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He earned his doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Laura’s Alteration’s owner Laura Wang opened her fifth store on Sept. 1 inside the Everett Mall. Wang received her bachelor’s degree in fashion design and studied for three years in Japan. She opened her first store at Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham in 2008. The business features complete alterations and same-day service and is located near Macy’s.
Western Washington Medical Group has added a nationally accredited Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center at the Woodlands Multi-Specialty Center in Canyon Park and the Silver Lake Medical Center in Everett. The Diabetes Education Program will be directed by Jennifer Okemah. Group classes will be led by Sarah Rosenbloom. Lyn Woods will provide medical nutrition therapy.
Silver Lake Eye Care has joined the national, private practice optometric network, Vision Source. Owner and practitioner, Dr. Lynette M. Sundholm, earned her degree from the Illinois College of Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association, Optometric Physicians of Washington and the Snohomish Society. She has performed optometry in Everett for 25 years.

The state Department of Ecology has presented Sound Transit its Environmental Excellence Award for the agency’s role in a unique estuary restoration project near Marysville. The Qwuloolt project will restore about 380 acres of unused farmland into a salt marsh, re-establish salmon habitat and aid in the recovery of Puget Sound. The Environmental Excellence Award is the Department of Ecology’s highest award.

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County’s New &Again Thrift Shoppe is teaming up with ewaste, an electronics recycler, for a community Be Green electronics recycling event. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, it will be free to recycle computers, monitors, TVs and lap tops. Other electronics may be recycled for a small fee. New &Again Thrift Shoppe is located at 3116 Rucker Avenue in Everett.

The Edmonds Sister City Commission is seeking non-paid volunteers to fill three-year commission terms. The Edmonds sister city is Hekinan, Japan. An interest in Japan, the Sister City philosophy and a willingness to serve the citizens of Edmonds is desirable. The Snohomish County Public Utility District reached an energy-saving milestone in August as total sales of compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs offered through a PUD promotion topped 5 million. The utility launched the program in 2000 and manages a network of more than 50 local retailers to offer discounts on the energy-saving bulbs. Each bulb uses one-fourth the energy of a standard incandescent bulb and lasts 10 times as long.
Alder Biopharmaceuticals Inc. of Bothell announced that it has received a $3.5 million milestone payment from Bristol-Myers Squibb for the initiation of a Phase 2 clinical trial of an investigational antibody therapeutic drug that blocks interleukin-6 in Crohn’s disease. The payment is part of the collaboration between Alder and Bristol-Myers Squibb that was formed in 2009. Alder granted Bristol-Myers Squibb worldwide rights to develop and commercialize the product.
Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna has announced that he and 36 other attorneys general reached a record $181 million dollar settlement with Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. Officials allege that Janssen improperly marketed the antipsychotic drugs Risperdal, Risperdal Consta, Risperdal M-Tab and Invega and engaged in unfair and deceptive practices when it promoted the antipsychotic drugs for unapproved or off-label uses.
