When the rich prosper, so do we

In response to the letter, "Strong middle class a necessity," I could not agree more. But we must remember how the middle class exists. I am a middle class retiree, but I know several wealthy people. Do people really think that these millionaires take the money home, put it in coffee cans, and place it under their beds? No, they invest it, spend it, or donate it.

When they buy the yacht, there are many middle=class boat builders are glad that the millionaire spent his money -- the same with cars, homes, etc. Then there are the businesses that are surviving and paying middle-class employees salaries because someone with money invested in that company. Then there are the less fortunate who need assistance from nonprofit organizations to get through some hard times. Those organizations exist because people with means are sharing their wealth to help others. Are there tax breaks for that? Of course -- thank God. So if I were rich, and the government wanted to tax me more, I guess I would have to get that money from one of those places where I had been spending it.

And you think the government would handle those funds better than I would? What percentage of each dollar processed through the government would actually be put back in the hands of the people that need it? The trillion dollar debt speaks for itself. Let the rich get richer, and we all will.
