Marysville Pilchuck held its own, staying within striking range for most of the match in this early nonleague test.
Meadowdale was surprised by the early pressure put on by the Tomahawks. "It shocked my team that they came out so hard," said Meadowdale head coach Wade Foley. "We happened to find the back of the net more than they did, but we still have lots to work on."
Critchlow helped take some of the pressure off the Mavericks by scoring twice in the first half, but that lead diminished when Mackenzie Nolte scored on an assist from Amanda Klep to close out the half, making it 2-1. Critchlow completed her hat trick in the 55th minute off of Roslyn Stapleton, who also assisted on Critchlow's first goal, but MP answered back a minute later with a goal off a corner kick. Sophomore Megan Zollars padded the lead for Meadowdale in the closing minutes of her first game, but both coaches considered it a well fought match.
For Meadowdale it was about getting over first-game jitters and figuring out how all the pieces fit together "They put us under a lot of pressure," said Wade "... We were able to absorb it over the course of the game. We finally took over our style of game." For Marysville it was about facing a tough opponent right out of the gate. "For us it was a good test early," said Bartley. "I wish we had played someone else before them, but I'm happy with our result. ... It was a pretty awesome game really."
