EVERETT -- Eight people were able to escape an early morning fire Wednesday in a two-story Everett home.

Everett Fire Department crews responded to the blaze shortly after 2 a.m. in the 2500 block of Wetmore Avenue.

Arriving crews found smoke coming from the second floor and attacked the fire in the upstairs kitchen, Everett fire marshal Rick Robinson said.

No one was reported injured.

The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to help the people living in the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Robinson said.

Damage to the home is estimated at $40,000.
