Cascade's Cronin, King's Shapiro named coaches of the week
Cronin and Shapiro were both named NFL High School Coach of the Week, announced by the Seattle Seahawks and Sterling Bank on Thursday.
It was extra special for Cronin, who, in his first game as Bruins coach, led Cascade to a 20-12 win over Shorewood and ended a 24-game losing streak that lasted over two seasons in the process.
"It's been quite a week," Cronin said. "It's definitely a team award. There's a lot of people who bought into this and made this happen."
Cronin gave credit to his players for the victory. "It was really cool to see all the hard work they've put in pay off," Cronin said. "Our theme this year is believe and the kids worked hard and committed themselves and that was the result."
Shapiro, the longtime King's coach, led his Knights to a 42-39 win over defending 2A champ Lynden.
Cronin and Shapiro each receive $500 for their football programs and $225 gift card to Sports Authority.
