Crash on U.S. 2 kills one, injures two
Police are still trying to identify the man who was killed in the crash

SNOHOMISH -- A man driving a stolen car was killed, and a father and son were injured early Thursday morning in a crash that closed U.S. 2 for hours, officials said.
The father, 45, and his son, 16, were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. They are believed to be from Snohomish.
The father suffered multiple injuries and was later flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit Thursday evening.
His son suffered less serious injuries, troopers said.
The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. when a black Honda traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lane and hit the 1992 Ford pickup truck head on, Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary said.
U.S 2 was closed to traffic for about three hours. The straight and flat stretch of U.S. 2 where the crash occurred was about a quarter mile west of 88th Street SE.
“We don’t know why this person crossed over the center line,” Leary said.
Troopers could not identify the driver who died. They didn’t know if the man was carrying a wallet. He was pronounced dead after he was flown to Harborview.
“One of the questions we are looking at is, No. 1, identifying the driver of the black car,” Leary said. “He doesn’t match the description of the registered owner.”
The car had expired tabs. It was reported stolen Thursday afternoon. It was last seen at a home off Paradise Lake Road near Maltby around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Leary said.
Troopers found in the ignition a shaved key, commonly used by car thieves.
