UW lineman and former Stanwood standout Dexter Charles may get his first college start on Saturday.

Shuffling along the Washington football team's offensive line may open a spot for former Stanwood standout Dexter Charles to start his first college game.

The redshirt freshman is battling Mike Criste -- both are currently listed as co-starter -- at right tackle after starter Erik Kohler was sidelined by a knee injury.

Here's the full story from the Tacoma News Tribune's Ryan Divish:

Stanwood's Charles to start?

The Huskies could do some shuffling on the offensive line this week, which may well mean a starting job for redshirt freshman Dexter Charles, a Stanwood High School product.

Charles is currently listed as co-starter at right tackle, along with Mike Criste, even though the former Stanwood star has been working at left tackle for most of the season. Criste finished Saturday's game after Erik Kohler was sidelined by a knee injury, and Sarkisian said the starting job is open heading into this week.

“We've got to still sort it out; it's still very early in the week,” Sarkisian said Monday. “They'll get a pretty even amount of equal reps. We've got a couple of different scenarios that we can work with _ actually, a few _ so part of that is going to tell of how Dexter looks and feels at right tackle.”

James Atoe could also figure into the mix. He's currently working at right guard, where true freshman Shane Brostek _ the son of former Husky lineman Bern Brostek _ could move into the starting lineup.
Charles was a factor in the spring, when he was battling for a starting spot at guard, but has since settled in as the top backup to starting left tackle Micah Hatchie. This week, he'll get a long look at the right tackle position.

"Dexter is kind of what you want in an offensive lineman,” Sarkisian said Monday. “He's 6-4, he's 300 pounds now, he's got a real nasty streak to him, he's extremely athletic. He just lacks experience.”
