Libraries celebrate Sno-Isle systems 50th year
Officials signed an agreement to be an inter-county district in December 1962.
Each of the Sno-Isle's 21 libraries will host an anniversary event geared toward its own community.
The Mill Creek Library celebration will feature a time capsule ceremony, the presentation "Sno-Isle Libraries Then and Now: Fun facts, famous quotations and heartwarming memories," and the Merrill Gardens Senior Choir, singing the top 40 hits from 1962 with library lyrics.
The event is set for 11 a.m. Sunday at the library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway.
The Mill Creek-based time capsule holds an announcement for the first bake sale to raise money for the library, newspaper articles about bookmobile services and the library's construction in 1987, information about city services and staff photos.
Library and city officials will read proclamations about the value of public libraries in the community.
At least two of the three winners of the "What the library means to me" contest will read their essays and the winner of the Adult Summer Reading Program's best written review contest will read the winning piece.
The event includes food and refreshments.

The Stanwood Library will record interviews with teens about the difference the library makes in their lives to seal in a time capsule until 2022 at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the library, 9701 271st St. NW.
