50 years ago (1962)
Everett pioneer Alvin Pettersen wrote about the stairs that mill workers used to take from their north end homes to the waterfront. Located at 14th, 19th and 21st streets, many remembered using them as children. Most workers took cars to work now, and the stairs were deteriorating.
Cognizant of the fact that the United Good Neighbors did much to make the YMCA's program possible, Espree Tri-Hi-Y girls were helping the UGN as it launched its annual fund campaign. Poster distributors were Jan Iffrig, Ruth Taggart, Karen Slattery and Jean McNeil.
25 years ago (1987)
Charles Henderson of Everett, a communications specialist with GTE-Northwest, was among the winners of a writing competition conducted by Writers Digest magazine. Henderson ranked seventh in fiction for a science fiction short story.
In an ad for Everett Mutual Savings Bank, President and Chief Executive Officer Michael B. Hansen said that customers were learning and liking their "new" bank. They receive the extra benefit of deposit insurance provided by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
