Published:
BURIEN -- Frank Straub will be able to take over as Spokane's police chief without being a commissioned officer in the state.
The Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission approved a waiver for Straub at a meeting Wednesday in Burien, based on his 28 years of experience in law enforcement.
The Spokesman-Review reports Straub could have been required to spend five months at the state Criminal Justice Training Center.
The Spokane City Council approved Straub on Monday as the city's director of law enforcement. He stepped down last month as public safety director in Indianapolis.
